David Lloyd, the left-hand opener for England, was born on this day. He played 7 Tests between 1974 and 1975. He even made a double-hundred, against India in Edgbaston in his second Test. Llyod turned umpire and he a commentator.

Eknath Solkar, the best short-leg fielder who represented India, was born on this day. to ever grace the game. Solkar equalled the then world record of six catches in a Test w When India beat West Indies for the first time ever in Port-of-Spain in 1970-71. Solkar remains Test cricket’s most successful fielder, with 53 catches in just 27 matches – the best ratio of any non-wicketkeeper with 20 or more Tests.

Bob Woolmer, the South African coach of the Pakistan team, Bob Woolmer, the coach of the Pakistan team amidst the World Cup. Dinesh Karthik’s last ball six awarded India the Nidahas Trophy T20 final against Bangladesh in Colombo. Walking in with India needing 34 from 12 balls, Karthik took Rubel Hossain for 22 runs. In the final over, batsman at the other end, Vijay Shankar, fmade a mess by bringing it down to five from the last two balls and then got out. Karthik, who had crossed, hit the last ball over the cover boundary for six. His feat brought back memory of Javed Miandad’s last-ball six against India at Sharjah.
