Day 10: New Zealand won their first Women’s Hockey gold; Neeraj Chopra gives golden Javelin moment

NEW ZEALAND DOWNED AUSTRALIA IN WOMEN’S HOCKEY

The New Zealand women’s hockey team won their first Commonwealth Games gold medal by defeating defending champions Australia by 4-1. This ended Australia’s run of three successive Commonwealth Games gold medals in women’s hockey. England won the bronze by defeating India by 6-0.

INDIA ON A ROLL

India claimed medals in Boxing, Wrestling, Javelin Throw and Shooting.

India’s most decorated boxer Mery Kom won the Commonwealth gold- the only medal absent in her kitty. Other Indian boxers- Gaurav Solanki and Vikas Krishnan also won gold.

In Shooting, Sanjeev Rajput won gold in 50m Rifle 3 Positions with a Games record of 454.5.

Manika Batra, the young Indian sporting superstar won gold in Women’s Table Tennis. She also won the Team gold, Doubles silver with Mouma Das and Mixed Doubles Bronze with Gnanashekaran Sathiyan.

The Wrestling gold was claimed by Vinesh Phogat and Sumit Malik.

In the Men’s Javelin Throw, Neeraj Chopra, grabbed the first-ever Commonwealth gold by throwing a season-best effort of 86.47m.
