On Day 3 of Para Asian Games, Indians clinch 11 medals; Ekta Bhyan, Narayan Thakur & Manish Narwal win gold

India bagged a total of 11 medals on the third day of the Para Asian Games with 3 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze. With this India maintain its eighth spot in the medal tally in Jakarta.

Para shooter Manish Narwal bagged the yellow metal in the P1 – Men’s 10m Air Pistol – SH1 event. He won the gold with a record score of 235.9.

Apart from Manish Narwal, all the other medals of the day came from the track and field events. Ekta Bhyan and Narayan Thakur clinched a gold each in Women’s F32/51 Club Throw event and Men’s T35 100m respectively. Bhyan produced her best throw of 16.02m in her fourth attempt. She was already in a good form and had won a gold at the Indian Open Para Athletics Championship earlier this year. The F32/51 class features athletes with significant impairment in hand function.

Narayan Thakur won the T35 100m final race in 14.02 seconds, ahead of Adawi Ahmed of Saudi Arabia and Yiu Chui Bao of Hong Kong. Athletes in T35 class have coordination impairments (hypertonia, ataxia and athetosis).

India also secured three silver medals through when Surender Aneesh Kumar won it in Men’s F43/44,F62/64 Discus, Ram Pal won in Men’s T45/46/47 High Jump and Virender won in Men’s F56/57 Shot Put.

The five bronze medal winners are Monu Ghangas in Men’s Shot Put F11 , Jayanti Behera in Women’s 200m T45/46/47, Anandan Gunasekaran in Men’s 200M T44/T62/64, Sundar Singh Gurjar in Men’s Discus Throw F46 and Pradeep in Men’s Discus Throw F43/44,F62/64.
