AMANTLE MONTSHO COMPLETES 400M DOUBLE FOR BOTSWANA

Just 24 hours after Issac Makwala claimed the 400m Men’s gold, his compatriot Amantle Montsho clinched the Women’s event to complete the historic double for Botswana. Montsho, the World Champion of 2011, was back at her best and clocked 50.15, her quickest time for five years. It is the first time in Commonwealth Games history the 400m Men’s and Women’s events have been won by athletes from the same country.

KATRYN MITCHELE WINS GOLD IN JAVELIN THROW

Kathryn Mitchell of Australia broke the Commonwealth Games record to claim the gold in Women’s Javelin Throw. Her throw of 68.92m was the longest throw in the world for five years. Another Australian, Kelsey-Lee Roberts, won the silver and the bronze went to South Africa’s Sunette Viljoen.

AISHA PRAUGHT GIVES JAMAICA HISTORIC GOLD

Aisha Praught, Jamaica’s Steeplechase athlete, claimed the historic gold for her country that has never won a Commonwealth gold in an event longer than 800m. Aisha won the 3000m Steeplechase gold in 9:21 seconds.

WORLD CHAMPION LUVO MANYONGA CLAIMS THE LONG JUMP GOLD

Luvo Manyonga from South Africa took the country’s first Commonwealth Games Long Jump gold since 1950. Manyonga also created a Games record 8.41m. Australia’s Henry Frayne took the silver and South Africa’s Ruswahl Samaai took the bronze.

Indian shooter Shreyasi Singh and Australia’s Emma Cox were tied at 96 at the end of the fourth round. Shreyasi had a marvellous shoot off and defeated the local favourite Cox to win the Double Trap gold for India. in the Men’s section Ankur Mittal won the bronze. Earlier, Om Mitharval also won a bronze in Men’s 5m Pistol event.
