India Eves keep the record of winning home series against England; Raj now has the most 50+ scores

The Indian Women’s team have never lost a home series against England. This time they completed a 2-1 home series victory over their World Cup conquerors. In the last match of the series, India had a comfortable 8-wicket victory with 28 ball to spare.

England had a dismal start to their innings as veteran Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami removed the two England opener Danilelle Wyatt and Tammy Beaumont within the first 10 overs. England was always in trouble except Amy Jones’s 94 from 119 and captain Heather Knight’s 36 from 59 balls. They helped England to reach a score of 201 for 9. Off-spinner Deepti Sharma, left-arm orthodox bowler Rajeshwari Gayakwad and leg spinner Poonam Yadav took 2 wickets each.

While chasing, opener Smriti Mandhana gave a brisk start to the Indian innings with a brilliant 53 from 67 balls. He veteran of many innings, Indian captain, Mithali Raj once again showed her class by breaking the record of achieving the most number of 50+ scores in the history of Women’s cricket. She reached her 50th fifty in 93 balls and guided India to the victory. Deepti Sharma chipped in with the bat too with a 61 balls 54.

India had won the first match by one wicket while England had levelled the series after they defeated the hosts by eight wickets in the second game. The third game was a decided and India won it in style.

Deepti Sharma and Smriti Mandhana were adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ and the ‘Player of the Series’ respectively.
