Olive Ridley chosen as the mascot of Asian Athletics Championship to be held in Odisha

Olly, belonging to the endangered Olive Ridley Sea Turtles that travel thousands of miles to arrive on the beaches of Odisha for their annual nestin, has been chosen as the official mascot of 22nd Asian Athletics Championship. The Games is to be held in Odisha from 6th-9th July, 2017. This is turning to be the biggest ever championship as nearly 1000 athletes will be participating and will be a qualifying event for the IAAF World Championships in London. This is the 3rd time the Asian Athletics Championships are being held in India, after New Delhi in 1989 and Pune in 2013. olly will be travelling to all the 30 districts of the state to create awareness about this endangered species.
