Australia, led by a brilliant 170 from Alyssa Healy, were crowned the champions of Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 after beating a valiant England by 71 runs.

Alyssa Healy’s sensational 170 had helped Australia to pile a huge score of 356/5 in 50 overs. Healy’s 170, off just 138 deliveries, was the highest score in a women’s or men’s World Cup final. The niece of famous Ian Healy, Alyssa enjoyed a 160-run opening partnership with Rachael Haynes (68 off 93 balls) and then a stand of 156 with Beth Mooney (62 off 47 balls). She grabbed both the Player of the Match and the Player of the Tournament trophies.

Veteran Anya Shrubsole was the only England bowler to perform with credit with three for 46 off her 10 overs. It was perhaps Shrubsole’s last World Cup match as she was seen in tears at the end.

England made a determined effort to stay within reach of the required run rate, but wickets fell at regular intervals. Nat Sciver was the only one to stand tall in the midst of English ruins. She made a commendable 148 that eventually became the second highest score in a Women’s Cricket World Cup final.

For Australia, Jess Jonassen took three for 57 and Alana King finished with three for 64.
