Preeti Pal and Dharambir to lead the Indian contingent as Flag Bearers at the World Para Athletics 2025.
With just 30 days to go for the World Para Athletics 2025, the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) proudly unveiled the official Team India jersey at a grand ceremony at The Lalit in New Delhi.
The event also marked the introduction of India’s 73-member contingent gearing up to compete on home turf from September 27 to October 5, 2025.
Gracing the launch were PCI’s brand ambassador and acclaimed actress Kangana Ranaut, PCI President Devendra Jhajharia, Paul Fitzgerald, Head of World Para Athletics, and top Indian para-athletes including Preeti Pal, Simran, Dharambir, Devender Kumar, Amisha Rawat, Shreyansh Trivedi, Varun Singh Bhati, and Pranav Soorma.
Kangana Ranaut lauded the athletes and the team announcement. She said, “Our para athletes are true heroes — their grit and spirit inspire millions. They deserve to be celebrated every day, not just when medals are won. This jersey isn’t just fabric; it’s the armour of our warriors.”
Speaking at the ceremony, PCI President Devendra Jhajharia emphasized that India is set to host its biggest-ever para-sport event, with participation confirmed from 107 countries.
He added that the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium has undergone extensive renovations—combining cutting-edge technology with world-class accessibility—to ensure an inclusive and empowering experience for athletes, officials, media, and fans alike.
Dharambir and Preeti Pal, India’s flag bearers for the upcoming World Para Athletics Championships, are riding high on their stellar performances at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. Dharambir struck gold in the Men’s Club Throw F51, while Preeti brought home two bronze medals, inspiring a nation with their resilience and excellence.
Reflecting on the honour, Dharambir said, “Carrying the Indian flag at this championship is a huge honour. Paris was unforgettable, but now my focus is on giving everything for India once again. This jersey stands for our unity, strength, and determination.”
Preeti Pal, speaking on the significance of the moment, added,
“Winning in Paris taught me the power of belief and persistence. Wearing the Team India jersey on home soil is a proud and emotional moment. I hope our journey inspires young para athletes across the country to dream big.”
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from across the para sports community — athletes, coaches, officials, and supporters all came together in a vibrant show of solidarity and pride. The newly unveiled jersey, boldly reflecting the strength, stood as a powerful symbol of national unity, resilience, and the collective spirit of Team India as they prepare to take on the world.
