Himanshu Dhillon and Rudrankksh Patil led India’s four-medal haul on Day 2 at Aichi Nagoya, while 13-year-old Yu Zidi continues to light up the pool and China extends its lead at the Asian Games 2026.

Day 2 at Aichi Nagoya 2026 belonged largely to China as the nation ended with 23 gold medals and 38 medals overall, comfortably ahead of hosts Japan. India added four medals to move to six overall. Himanshu Dhillon, Rudrankksh Patil and Parth Mane combined for silver in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle team event before Dhillon and Patil returned to claim individual silver and bronze, respectively. Suchika Tariyal then added a historic bronze in Mixed Martial Arts.

China continues to dictate the pace

China’s depth was again evident across the programme, particularly in swimming and shooting.

The day’s standout performer was 13-year-old Yu Zidi, who won the Women’s 200m Individual Medley in an Asian Games record, collecting her second gold medal in as many days. China also continued its strength in Men’s Swimming, while its shooters won both team gold medals contested that day.

Olympic champion Sheng Lihao successfully defended his Men’s 10m Air Rifle Individual title with a score of 254.2. China also collected gold in the Mixed Team Triathlon Relay. Lin Xinyu, Li Mingxu, Huang Anqi and Zhang Xirui finished in 1:25:54, 51 seconds ahead of Japan, with Hong Kong, China taking bronze. It was Lin’s second gold of the Games after her individual triumph a day earlier.

China’s Zhang Boheng successfully defended his Men’s Individual All-around title with 85.065 points, narrowly beating Japan’s Olympic champion Shinnosuke Oka, who scored 84.698. Three-time world champion Daiki Hashimoto completed the podium with 83.865.

The result helped China further consolidate its position at the top of the medal standings while Japan continued accumulating medals across a broad range of sports. By the end of Day 2 at Aichi Nagoya 2026, Japan had 8 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze, while the Republic of Korea stood third with 5 gold, 3 silver and 15 bronze.

India on Day 2 at Aichi Nagoya: Shooting Takes Centre Stage

For India, Day 2 at Aichi Nagoya 2026 delivered four medals — three in shooting and one in mixed martial arts. The haul lifted India’s overall tally from two medals to six medals- four silver and two bronze.

Men’s 10m Air Rifle Team — Silver

India began its medal collection for the day through Himanshu Dhillon, Rudrankksh Patil and 18-year-old Parth Mane, who combined to secure silver in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle team competition. It continued India’s excellent start at the Shooting range after the Women’s 10m Air Rifle team and Elavenil Valarivan had delivered two silvers on Day 1.

Dhillon and Patil make it a double podium

Besides, their team silver, Himanshu Dhillon produced 252.4 points to claim silver, and Rudrankksh Patil added bronze with 230.9 points. Thus, Shooting had now contributed five of India’s first six medals at Aichi-Nagoya 2026.

Suchika Tariyal creates Indian MMA history

Away from the Shooting range, Suchika Tariyal provided one of India’s most significant stories of the day. Tariyal won bronze in the Women’s Traditional -60kg Mixed Martial Arts event, becoming India’s first Asian Games medallist in MMA, a sport making its Asian Games debut at Aichi-Nagoya.

Swimming brings no medal

India’s swimmers were unable to break into the medals. Srihari Nataraj reached the Men’s 50m Backstroke final but finished eighth, while India’s Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay team failed to progress to the final.
