China Surges Past 100 Gold Medals

The Chinese contingent ended the day with 107 gold, 41 silver and 28 bronze. China’s 107 gold medals were more than the combined gold-medal tally of Japan, South Korea and India.

Host Japan remained second with 31 gold, 49 silver and 49 bronze, giving it 129 medals. South Korea was third with 16 gold, 21 silver and 36 bronze.

Behind the leading three, Uzbekistan moved into fourth place with eight golds and 34 medals, edging Kazakhstan on silver medals despite both countries having eight golds. Thailand and Iran followed closely.

India on Day 7 at Aichi Nagoya 2026

India’s campaign took a major step forward as the country won seven medals- two gold, three silver and two bronze– taking its overall tally to 30 medals. India climbed to 10th place in the overall medal standings.

Kabaddi Delivers the Golden Double

The biggest Indian story of the day came from Kabaddi as both Indian teams retained their Asian Games titles by defeating Iran in the finals.

The Women’s team won a closely fought contest 37-34, while the Men’s team followed with a 40-34 victory.

The Women’s victory was particularly significant because India remained unbeaten throughout the competition. The Men’s team also successfully defended its title, maintaining India’s long-standing dominance in Asian Games Kabaddi.

The two victories took India’s gold-medal tally to four following the Women’s Cricket title and the Mixed-team 10m Air Pistol gold.

Sawan Barwal Ends a 44-Year Wait

India’s day begun with a historic result in the Men’s Marathon. Sawan Barwal won silver in 2:11:37, finishing behind Japan’s Ichitaka Yamashita, who took gold in 2:10:49. Barwal’s medal ended a 44-year wait for India in the Asian Games Marathon.

For a discipline that demands both endurance and tactical discipline, Barwal’s performance became one of the most significant Indian athletics results of the Games.

Tajinderpal Singh Toor Adds Another Silver

Two-time defending champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor had to settle for silver in the Men’s Shot Put. Toor produced a throw of 20.64m, while Iran’s Tayebise Mohammareza won gold with a Games-record effort. The result nevertheless gave Toor a medal at his third consecutive Asian Games, following gold medals in 2018 and 2022.

Shooting Adds India’s 11th Medal

The Shooting contingent continued its remarkable medal run. Ashi Chouksey, Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa Vinod won silver in the Women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions team event. India’s shooting success had already included gold, silver and bronze medals across air rifle, air pistol, skeet and other events.

The medal took India’s shooting haul to 11 medals, making shooting India’s most successful sport at the Games at that stage.

Prachi Choudhary Wins 400m Bronze

India’s Athletics campaign received another boost when Prachi Choudhary won bronze in the Women’s 400m. She clocked 53.21 seconds to secure a place on the podium.

Squash Produces Another Medal

India also added bronze in Mixed Doubles Squash. Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar finished with a bronze medal after their semifinal defeat.

At the same time, India’s singles campaign produced two breakthroughs. Anahat Singh reached the Women’s Singles final after overcoming Japan’s Satomi Watanabe, recovering from a 0-2 deficit and saving two match points. Abhay Singh also reached the Men’s Singles final after defeating Pakistan’s Mohammad Irfan.
