India signed off from the Asian Games 2026 collecting nine medals on Day 14 at Aichi Nagoya 2026- five gold, two silver and two bronze- to finish with 85 medals.
The late surge moved India to fourth in the overall medal standings, ahead of Uzbekistan on silver-medal count despite both nations finishing with 21 gold medals. The final day of produced gold medals in Cricket, Hockey, Wrestling, Archery and Golf.
China Dominates, Japan Records a Strong Home Campaign
China once again finished comfortably at the top of the Asian Games medal table. The Chinese contingent ended with 169 gold, 89 silver and 83 bronze medals- 341 in total. It was China’s best medal haul at an Asian Games held outside the country.
Hosts Japan finished second with 83 gold, 95 silver and 91 bronze- 269 medals, while South Korea took third with 39 gold, 43 silver and 68 bronze- 150 medals. Japan’s 83 gold medals also represented a record haul for the country at the Asian Games, surpassing its previous best at Hiroshima 1994.
Kumkum Mohod Creates Archery History
At just 17, Kumkum Mohod became one of the defining stories of India’s Asian Games campaign. She defeated South Korea’s Oh Yejin 6-5 in a shoot-off to win the Women’s Individual Recurve title on Day 14 at Aichi Nagoya 2026.
The victory made Kumkum the first Indian woman to win an Individual Recurve gold at the Asian Games and also secured an Olympic quota place for India for the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
India also took bronze in the Men’s Individual Recurve event, with Neeraj Chauhan defeating compatriot Dhiraj Bommadevara 6-4 in the bronze-medal contest.
Pranavi Urs Breaks New Ground in Golf
Golf delivered another historic Indian gold. Pranavi Urs became the first Indian woman to win an Individual Asian Games Golf gold medal. She added a silver in the Women’s team event alongside Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, giving India its first medal in the women’s team Golf competition.
Aman Sehrawat Turns Bronze into Gold
Wrestling produced another significant storyline. Aman Sehrawat won the Men’s Freestyle 57kg gold, defeating North Korea’s reigning world champion Han Chong Song 11-7 in the final. Sehrawat had won bronze in the same category at Hangzhou. In Nagoya, he moved to the top of the podium, becoming the first Indian to win an Asian Games gold in men’s 57kg Freestyle wrestling.
Cricket: India Beat Pakistan to Complete the Double
The Men’s Cricket final on Day 14 at Aichi Nagoya 2026 delivered one of the most anticipated contests of the Games. India defeated Pakistan by 19 runs to retain the Asian Games Men’s T20 title.
India posted 211/6, with Abhishek Sharma scoring 61 and Tilak Varma smashing an unbeaten 51. Pakistan responded with 192/6, despite a spectacular 96 from Hasan Nawaz.
The victory gave India both cricket gold medals at Aichi-Nagoya, after the women’s team had defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs earlier in the Games.
Hockey Completes a Historic Double
The Men’s Hockey team provided the final gold medal of India’s campaign. India defeated Malaysia 5-1 in the final to retain the Asian Games title.
Harmanpreet Singh scored twice, while Jugraj Singh, Hardik Singh and Shilanand Lakra were also on the scoresheet. Malaysia’s only goal came from Shello Silverius. Harmanpreet finished the tournament as the leading scorer with 12 goals.
The victory secured India’s direct qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. It also completed a remarkable hockey double.
A Strong Finish, But Not a Record
The 85-medal haul represents a 21-medal drop from India’s 106 at Hangzhou, while the gold tally of 21 was seven fewer than the previous edition’s 28. Yet the final two days changed the complexion of the campaign.
India entered Day 13 at Aichi Nagoya 2026 with only 10 gold medals. Eleven gold medals arrived across the final two days. That late surge pushed India from outside the top 10 to fourth overall.
India did not match its Hangzhou medal record, but it demonstrated greater breadth in several disciplines. Archery, Boxing, Wrestling, Hockey, Cricket and Golf all delivered gold, while women athletes played a particularly prominent role in the country’s medal campaign.
The Aichi-Nagoya Games also produced Olympic qualification gains in Archery and Hockey, adding significance to several of India’s gold-medal performances.
