India sweeps podium on Day 2 of World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025

It was a Javelin Day for India at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025 as the host nation claims 6 medals in various categories of Javelin Throw.

The highlight of the day was Rinku Hooda, who stood out in the F46 category of Men’s Javelin event. Rinku clinched the gold medal with a stunning throw of 60.26 meters. Sri Lanka’s Gamini Ketawala, who earned silver with 56.88 meters, and Uzbekistan’s Elyorbek Elmatov, who took the bronze with 43.01 meters.

Rinku maintained his dominant form after his gold at the 22nd National Para Athletics Championships in Goa and a silver medal at the 4th Asian Para Games. His victory here further solidified his position as a top contender in the para-athletics world.

Indian athletes also dominated the podium in the Men’s javelin F12, F37, F42, and F43 combined categories. A clean sweep for the hosts was achieved by Pushpendra Singh, who led the pack with a gold-winning throw of 57.57 meters, followed by Mohit, who took silver with 45.45 meters, and Jaswant, who claimed bronze with 45.94 meters.

Ritender added another gold for India in the Men’s javelin F40/F41 category with a throw of 30.33 meters. In the women’s javelin F34 category, India’s Baghyashri Madhavrao Jadhav won gold with a throw of 12.73 meters, edging out Uzbekistan’s Dilsuz Ziyodulloeva, who took silver with 11.30 meters.

Other rising Indian stars also showcased their talent. Chirag, a promising athlete, secured a commendable third place in the Men’s 400 metre T36 category. Recently, Chirag earned gold at the Chennai Nationals and a silver at the World Para Grand Prix in Dubai. His performance in New Delhi continued to build on his impressive career trajectory.

India’s Atul Kaushik won the men’s Discus Throw F56/F57 competition with a throw of 43.92 meters, and fellow countryman Ram Kumar Yadav took second place with a throw of 30.59 meters. Maekel Lita of the Philippines took home the bronze with a distance of 22.79 meters.

In Women’s Shot Put event, Svetlana Mironova claimed gold with a throw of 13.97 meters, while India’s Khushboo Gill took silver with 9.52 meters and Ananya Bansal earned bronze with a 7.73-meter effort. 

In the men’s long jump T42/T44 event, Mit Bharatbhai Patel and Ramsinghbhai Govindbhai of India took silver and bronze, respectively. The gold went to Anil Prasanna of Sri Lanka who won it with a 5.36-meter jump.

In yet another impressive display by India, Dilip Mahadu Gavit won gold in the men’s 400-meter T47 event with a time of 48.78 seconds. Bhavikkumar Dineshbhai won bronze in 50.32 seconds, followed by Jasbeer, who represented the Indian Army, in 49.64 seconds.

Arjun Singh of India took the third place in the Men’s Long Jump T47 category with 6.18 meters.

It wasa a fruitful day for the Neutral Team too. In the Men’s 400-meter T37 event, Bartolomeu Da Silva of Brazil won gold in 52 seconds, followed by Andrei and Anton, both of whom are neutral para athletes.  Nikita Kotukov, a neutral para athlete, won gold in the Men’s Long Jump T47 category with a leap of 6.79 meters.

India’s performance at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix 2025, particularly in the javelin events, set the tone for a strong campaign and confirmed the nation’s rising prominence in para sports internationally.
