Viraaj-the Mascot unveiled for New Delhi 2025 Para Athletics World Championships

The road to one of the world’s most inspiring sporting events officially kicked off today, as the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) unveiled Viraj- the heartwarming mascot for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships.

The unveiling of the vibrant logo and Viraj- the Mascot marked the start of the ‘100 Days to Go’ countdown for the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships. The event has built a momentum toward India’s biggest-ever para-sporting spectacle, set to take place this September-October.

Meet Viraaj — A Mascot with a Message

Introducing Viraaj, a dynamic young elephant with a blade prosthesis, symbolising resilience, courage, and unwavering spirit. More than just a mascot, Viraaj stands as a beacon of empowerment, representing every para-athlete’s journey to greatness.

A Star-Studded and Spirited Launch

The grand launch was held at The Ashok Hotel, New Delhi, in the presence of dignitaries and sports champions. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Rekha Gupta, led the celebrations, Vanathi Srinivasan, MLA and Chief Patron of PCI, joined the occasion.

Actor and Member of Parliament, Kangana Ranaut, who was declared the brand ambassador of the event, added star power to the event. “It’s not just a mascot — it’s a movement. Viraaj is a symbol of determination and triumph, and I’m honoured to support an event that puts real heroes in the spotlight, ” Ranaut said in her stirring speech.

Other prominent attendees included Ashish Sood, Delhi’s Education Minister; Hari Ranjan Rao, Secretary (Sports), MYAS; and Paul Fitzgerald, Head of World Para Athletics, who hailed India’s efforts as “truly transformative.”

Voices of Vision and Pride

Rekha Gupta praised the event as “a landmark in celebrating human potential,” emphasising the deeper significance. She said,  “The logo and Viraaj together capture the heart of India and para sport — fierce, proud, and full of possibility.”

PCI President Devendra Jhajharia extended his heartfelt wishes to all the para-athletes preparing to compete. He said, “As we mark the 100-day countdown to the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, I’m proud to share that preparations are progressing exceptionally well. The Paralympic Committee of India, in close coordination with the International Federation, is working tirelessly to ensure that this event sets new benchmarks in excellence, accessibility, and athlete experience.”

100 Days to History

As the countdown begins, New Delhi readies itself to welcome over 100 countries, making the 2025 edition the largest para athletics championship ever hosted in India.

This will not be just a sporting event- it is a celebration of resilience, inclusion, and the boundless power of the human spirit. Let the countdown begin.
